Son Heung-min sparks Tottenham injury concern as star spotted ‘limping’ on international duty
During South Korea’s international friendly match against Vietnam, Son Heung-min gave Tottenham supporters a serious worry about his injury. In a welcome injury boost for Ange Postecoglou, Jurgen Klinsmann rested the Spurs captain for the friendly against Tunisia; nonetheless, he was named in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s match.
Son has been battling with a groin issue for a while, despite his explosive start to the season. Postecoglou revealed the extent Spurs had to go to in order for him to be ready every weekend. “Look, he wasn’t 100 percent but I had a chat with him yesterday and he was desperate to play,” Postecoglou said following the 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
He was going to give what he could and he did. He was never going to play the whole 90, we were always going to give him an hour or so but he led from the front again and he was the one doing the pressing. He got his goal as well so great captain’s effort.”
the 4-0 win over Tunisia, Son was an unused substitute before he played the full 90 minutes against Vietnam with an injury scare suffered in the game. At half time, with his nation 2-0 up, Son was captured limping to the tunnel sparking significant concerns that he had picked up a muscular issue.
After the game, Son also revealed it was his decision to play when speaking to reporters, to which, via Korean journalist Sungmo Lee, he said: “I discussed with the gaffer (Jürgen Klinsmann) and said I will play the game as I cannot forgive myself if I don’t play for Korea national team in front of Korean fans when I already return to Korea
