Son Heung-min, a forward for Tottenham Hotspur, expressed his “deepest apologies” on Thursday for Andre Gomes’ injury, which involves the well-known South Korean player.

Notably, Gomes, 26, sustained the injury in the 77th minute of Sunday’s Premier League match between Spurs and Everton after being tackled from behind by Son.

Gomes suffered a painful tumble that made his injuries worse. Players and spectators who were in close proximity to the incident reacted with agony at the injury.

It was an extremely difficult few days. I realized how fortunate I am to have my friends, teammates, and supporters—everyone sent me such powerful messages,” Son said to BT Sport 2 following the Spurs’ 4-0 Champions League victory over Crvena zvezda on Thursday.

Son continued, “Of course I still feel really, really sorry about this accident and this situation,” in reference to the tackle on Gomes.

“I had to concentrate for the group. I have to persevere. I had to put forth more effort. I believe that this is how I should respond to everyone who has supported me.

Son, who was given a red card for the tackle that hurt Gomes’ ankle, eventually had the Football Association reverse the ruling.
