Three ways Manchester United could line up in midfield after latest injury news

Manchester United have been hit harder than most when it comes to injuries this season and things are not about to get any easier for them after the latest international break.

Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund were forced off during the victory over Luton on Saturday afternoon and the two Denmark players will have to sit things out for their country as a result. Hojlund should return for United before November has been and gone, but Eriksen faces a month out of action.

He joins fellow midfielder Casemiro in the treatment room and that means Erik ten Hag will have some thinking to do when it comes to the make-up of his engine room for upcoming games. Here are three ways United could replace Eriksen and Casemiro starting against Everton on Sunday, November 26.

It was Mason Mount who was summoned from the bench against Luton on Saturday afternoon when Eriksen pulled up with 40 minutes on the clock. He was paired alongside Scott McTominay as a double pivot with Bruno Fernandes operating in his preferred No.10 role.

On first viewing, that would seem the most likely option for Ten Hag and especially so having splashed out £60million on Mount this summer. Mount has yet to make a telling mark for his new club with United’s famous No.7 shirt on his back. Could this be his time to shine with so many midfielders finding themselves in the treatment room right now?

Without the big price tag, Sofyan Amrabat finds himself in a similar position to Mount. Although there is not quite so much pressure on the Fiorentina loanee to perform, he will want to make the most of his golden opportunity to try and win a permanent contract.
