UPDATED NEWS: Nottingham Forest vs Luton “SHOCKING” predictions: Hatters’ losing habit could

Luton Town, who know that a defeat may send them into the Premier League relegation zone, travel to Nottingham Forest with the knowledge that they are likely in for a difficult season.

The Hatters’ last away trip saw them win 2-1 at Everton after a fierce battle, but consecutive home losses to Tottenham (1-0) and Burnley (2-1) have given them a reality check.

Thanks to a spending binge, Forest cemented their place in the top division last season, and they are off to a strong start in 2023–24.

With nine points, the Tricky Trees have not yet experienced a loss at the City Ground.

Team news: Taiwo Awoniyi, the leading scorer, Danilo, the midfielder, and defender Felipe (knee) will all be missing for Nottingham Forest.

Although the injuries of Nuno Tavares, Serge Aurier, and Gonzalo Montiel (both groin) will need to be evaluated, Moussa Niakhate is back in the running following a one-match suspension.

After Forest maintained a spotless record in a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace, Niakhate will have to fight to rejoin the team.

Albert Sambi Lokonga, Amari’i Bell (both thigh), Dan Potts, Jordan Clark (both ankle), and Gabriel Osho (knee) are among the numerous ailments that continue to plague Luton.

But Ross Barkley is aiming for his first start after having a fortnight to improve his match fitness.

Each of Forest’s last six games have featured less than two goals.

Luton have lost six of their eight Premier League games, although each of their last four defeats have been by a single goal.

The Hatters have scored more than one goal in just one of their last seven fixtures.

Luton have conceded the opening goal in seven of their eight league games.

Prediction

Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last six Premier League home games and their strong form at the City Ground can continue with a victory over Luton.

When the fixture list was announced a few Forest fans could be forgiven for taking a sharp intake of breath.

The Tricky Trees had to deal with road trips to Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City inside the first two months of the season, meaning there was every chance of a poor start to the campaign.

However, they competed well in every game and can be satisfied to have put nine points on the board.

Luton are five points worse off having lost six of eight games.

They looked like they had made a breakthrough with last month’s 2-1 victory at Everton, but subsequent losses to Burnley and Spurs have left them hovering just above the drop zone.

Rob Edwards’ side should eventually put some wins on the board at Kenilworth Road, where it is easier for them to press teams and execute their direct style of play.

But they often struggle to impose themselves in away games and are unlikely to pick up any points this weekend.
